Best Chaty app alternative in 2026
Chaty (chatyapp.com) lets you chat with people nearby and discover local users — but requires a sign-in to access anything. Nearby Chat gives you instant local chat with no login, no profile, directly in your browser.
Why Nearby Chat over Chaty
- • No sign-in required — Chaty gates everything behind a login wall; Nearby Chat has none.
- • Truly anonymous — no profile, no photo, no linked social account.
- • Group city rooms — open live chat for everyone in your city.
- • No snapshots or GIFs required — text-only keeps it fast and safe.
- • Works everywhere — any browser on any device, no app required.
What is Chaty (chatyapp.com)?
Chaty is a nearby people chat app that lets users discover others around them, share snapshots and GIFs, and start private conversations. It positions itself as a casual social discovery tool. However, the entire app requires a sign-in before any content is visible — a hard barrier for users who want frictionless local chat.
The sign-in problem
Chaty's homepage shows features but gates them with a login requirement. This means every new user must register an account before connecting with anyone local. Studies consistently show that every additional step in onboarding reduces conversion by 20–40%. Nearby Chat eliminates this entirely — the first thing you see is a live chat room, not a login form.
