5 New Viral Features on Nearby Chat: Elevate Your Local Connections

February 24, 2026 · By the Nearby Chat Engineering Team

We are thrilled to announce our biggest update yet! We’ve spent the last month building new, exciting ways for you to connect with your local community. Forget static text boxes—local chat just became interactive, global, and highly expressive.

1. Canvas Roulette (Co-Create) 🎨

Words aren't always enough. With Canvas Roulette, you are randomly paired with another user nearby to collaboratively draw on a shared canvas in real-time. Whether you create a masterpiece or a funny doodle, you can save the final image and share it instantly.

2. The 2 AM Club 🌙

Night owls, this one is for you. The 2 AM Club is an exclusive, neon-lit chat room that only unlocks between 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM in your local timezone. It’s the perfect place for deep, late-night conversations with others who are awake when the rest of the city is asleep.

3. Global Relays 🌍

Ever wonder how far a message can travel? With Global Relays, you can write a message and pass it to someone nearby. They pass it to someone else, and so on. Watch your message travel across cities and continents on an interactive map. It's the digital butterfly effect!

4. Vibe Check ✨

Set the mood of your city. Vibe Check allows you to broadcast your current mood (Party, Chill, Study, Gym, etc.) using colors. Not only does your avatar glow with your vibe, but you can also see the collective "City Vibe" based on what everyone else around you is feeling.

5. Babel Chat 🗣️

Language should never be a barrier to local connection, especially in diverse cities or if you are traveling. Babel Chat automatically translates incoming messages into your preferred language in real-time, allowing seamless conversations across different cultures.
